Sergey Barkovsky, actor

Sergey Barkovsky is one of the most popular and demanded actors of St. Petersburg. He graduated from the Department of Philosophy, Leningrad State University, in 1986, and in 1992, from the St. Petersburg Academy of Theatrical Art (Stage Direction and Acting Technique). Since 1992, he has been with the Youth Theater on the Fontanka. Honored Artist of Russia (2005).

In the recent twenty years, he has played over 100 parts of the classical and today’s repertoire in the Youth Theater on the Fontanka, Tovstonogov Bolshoi Drama Theater, Alexandrine Theater, N. Akimov Comedy Theater, and in other theaters of St. Petersburg. He has acted in dozens of films by such directors as P. Chukhrai (The Key), A. Sokurov (The Quiet Pages), A. German (Khrustalyov, My Car!), N. Mikhalkov (Burnt by the Sun 2), K. Shakhnazarov (The Vanished Empire), K. Lopushansky (The Nasty Swans), S. Snezhkin (Brezhnev), and S. Balabanov (Trofim).

Sergey Barkovsky has acted in multiple TV serials, among which are Streets of Broken Lamps, National Security Agent, Bandit’s Petersburg, Special Squad, Lines of Destiny, Stolypin, Life and Death of Lyonka Panteleyev, Liteiny 4, The Two out of the Chest, and The Placenta.

The actor has received several theatrical awards, including the Golden Soffits for the best male performance as Thalberg in S. Spivak’s production The Days of the Turbins (Youth Theater on the Fontanka, 2000), Sganarelle in G. Trostyanetsky’s production Don Juan (Alexandrine Theater, 2001), and Pavel Prokhorovich Obroshenov in Yu. Tsurkanu’s production The Jokers (Mironov Russian Enterprise Theater, 2006).
